DURHAM, N.C. - UNC Wilmington set a pair of pool records, but came up short as Duke
swept the Seahawks in the swimming and diving opener for both teams on Saturday
at the Taishoff
Aquatics Pavilion.
The Blue
Devils won the men's meet by a score of 163-137 and the women's 175-120.
The
Seahawk men set the first pool record of the afternoon when the 200 Medley
Relay of junior Bobby Guntoro, senior Rob Anderson, junior Tucker Waldron and
sophomore Alex Aguilar clocked in with a first-place time of 1:32.76.
UNCW
closed out the meet with the women setting the other pool record, this coming
in the 200 Free Relay. The relay team of sophomores Anna Munger and Mattie Riley, freshman Carly Tanner and senior Caitlin Kirsteier finished first with a
time of 1:35.39.
Kirsteier
led the Seahawks, winning both the 100 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly with times
of 52.03 and 55.83, respectively.
Guntoro,
meanwhile, added a pair of wins in the 100 Butterfly and the 100 Backstroke.
Guntoro swam 51.22 in the IM and followed with a time of 51.56 in the
Backstroke.
Also
winning individual events for the Seahawks on the men's side were freshman Ray McGorry in the 200 Backstroke (2:10.42), senior Bennett Rainey in the 200 IM
(1:55.62) and Anderson in the 100 Breaststroke (57.80).
On the
women's side, the 200 Medley relay of sophomore Alden Dyer, Tanner, Kirsteier
and Riley.
In diving
action, sophomore Kristin Harris fashioned a pair of third-place finishes in
the 1 and 3-meter dives with scores of 229.80 and 244.43, respectively. Junior
Kobi Salinas finished second in the men's 1-meter (288.82) and third in the
3-meter (317.55).
The
Seahawks open their home schedule on Oct. 23, when they host Gardner-Webb at 4
p.m. UNCW will have a short turnaround before returning to the pool on Oct. 24
for a 1 p.m. start against Colonial Athletic Association foe Old Dominion.
