The Seahawks open their 50th season of swimming and diving when they host South Carolina at 4 p.m. on Friday at the David B. Allen Natatorium. The meet will be streamed on FloCollege and live results are available on the Meet Mobile App. The South Carolina women's program is ranked 20th in the preseason CSCAA Top 25 Poll.Â

The Seahawks host Virginia on October 10th, which will also be Alumni Weekend. The Cavaliers are coached by Todd DeSorbo, a 1999 and 2000 UNCW graduate, who took over the program in 2017. DeSorbo has led the women's program to six consecutive NCAA Championships. The UVA women top the CSCAA preseason poll while the men are eighth.Â

Versus South CarolinaÂ
The Gamecocks lead both all-time series. The women are undefeated against UNCW at 15-0 while the men are 2-12. The UNCW men topped South Carolina, 158-142 to open the 2022-23 season and the other win came in 2002 (153-136). The men's series dates back to 1992 and the women's series to 1991.Â

The Seahawks open their season with three straight Power 4 opponents, with NC State following South Carolina and Virginia. The Wolfpack, which visits the Allen Natatorium on Oct. 23, has both its program ranked in the CSCAA Preseason Poll. The men are seventh while the women are ninth.Â

Bobby Guntoro was named head coach on July 23, 2020. Guntoro enters his seventh season as head coach. Last season helped the men's program win its fifth straight Coastal Athletic Association championship. Guntoro spent eight seasons at NC State before coming to UNCW, where he once swam for the Seahawks. Guntoro since arriving at UNCW has accounted for eight of the Seahawks eighteen Coastal Athletic Championships. Â
