Swimming & Diving Hosts Virginia On Alumni Weekend

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW welcomes nationally ranked Virginia to the David B. Allen Natatorium on Alumni Weekend for a dual meet on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Cavaliers are ranked 10th on the men's side while the women, who have captured the last six NCAA championships, are the top-ranked program in the nation.

The Seahawks opened their season with a pair of losses to South Carolina on Sept. 25.

William Carrico won three events, highlighting UNCW's season-opening setback to South Carolina. Carrico, an NCAA Championship qualifier one season ago, topped the field in the men's 100 and 200-Yard backstrokes as well as the 200 Yard individual medley. His time of 48.14 seconds in the 100 Back moved him into eighth on UNCW's all-time list.

Five Seahawks have posted conference-leading times early on this season, including a trio of freshmen. Gavin Buckley has the top 200 Free time (1.39.69), while Dylan Fisk leads the pack in the 500 and 1000 Free with times of 4:27.63 and 9:10.09, respectively. Phoenix Rose, meanwhile, owns a top time of 55.09 seconds in the women's 100 Fly.

The Seahawks continue their homestand on Oct. 23, when they host nationally ranked North Carolina State at 5 p.m.

Friday will be the first day of an annual food drive for Hawk's Harvest, which benefits UNCW's on-campus food pantry for enrolled students experiencing food insecurity. The volleyball and swimming and diving programs are accepting donations beginning this weekend and through Oct. 14's volleyball match with Coastal Carolina.
