Carrico Opens Season With CAA Honors

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW senior William Carrico was recognized on Tuesday as the Coastal Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week following an impressive performance in the season opener against South Carolina.

Carrico, an NCAA qualifier as a junior, won three individual events and swam on a winning relay as the Seahawks were held off by the Gamecocks last weekend.

Carrico captured gold in both Backstroke events and the 200 IM. He fashioned a time of 48.14 seconds to win the 100 Back and moved into eighth all-time at UNCW. His winning times of 1:45.81 and 1:47.44 came in the 200 Back and 200 IM, respectively.

In the 200 Medley Relay, Carrico anchored the Seahawks' winning squad that clocked in with a 1:20.98 mark.

The Seahawks continue their season-opening four-meet homestand on Oct. 10, when they host nationally-ranked Virginia at 10 a.m. UVA's women's program has won the last six NCAA Championships.
