Swim & Dive Drops Season Opener

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Senior William Carrico earned individual event wins in three events as the UNCW swim and dive teams opened the 2026-27 season with men's (165-135) and women's (250-50) setbacks to No. 20 South Carolina on Friday afternoon at the David B. Allen Natatorium.

Carrico, an NCAA Championship qualifier one season ago, topped the field in the men's 100 and 200 Yard backstroke as well as the 200 Yard individual medley. The Durham, New Hampshire, native also won the 200 Yard medley relay along with Kris Lawson, Simon Russell and Hil Lindsay.

Lindsay, Lawson, Will Mahorney and Joseph Busic claimed first place in the 200 Yard freestyle relay while Lawson finished first among seven swimmers in the 50 Yard Freestyle competition.

The Seahawks continue the season on Saturday, Oct. 10, against 2025 National Champion Virginia at 10 a.m. as part of Alumni Weekend.
