WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCW women's basketball program will host the second annual Dee Dee Toon Rivers Luncheon on Monday, Oct. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Wilmington Convention Center.

"Last year was an amazing inaugural event", said head coach Nicole Woods. "We are looking forward to seeing everyone back as we celebrate her and the tip-off tour season!"

A Whiteville, N.C., native, Toon Rivers passed away April 30 at age 47 in Wilmington. She was a two-sport student-athlete at UNCW from 1995-99, competing for the Seahawks' women's basketball and women's track and field programs before making Wilmington her home following her collegiate career.

The luncheon will celebrate Toon Rivers' life and legacy while raising funds for the UNCW women's basketball program. The event also brings together members of the Wilmington business community and current Seahawks student-athletes.

Toon Rivers appeared in 107 career games for the women's basketball program and averaged 6.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game as a senior during the 1998-99 season.

On the track, Toon Rivers remains third in program history in the outdoor triple jump with a mark of 12.10 meters (39 feet, 8 1/2 inches). She recorded the mark at the 1999 Coastal Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where it set a UNCW program record at the time.
