Allen, Marshburn Selected In MLB Draft

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW junior pitchers Cooper Allen and Connor Marshburn were selected by Washington and Seattle, respectively, on the second day of the Major League Baseball Draft.

With these selections, UNCW finished the draft with three total picks after Trevor Lucas was selected in the fourth round by Seattle on Saturday.

Allen paced the UNCW pitching staff with a career-high eight wins and posted a career-best 2.79 earned run average while making 15 starts. He held opponents to a .210 batting average, compiled a 1.01 WHIP, and struck out 96 hitters in 87 innings of work.

Allen was a second-team All-Coastal Athletic Association starting pitcher, earned CAA All-Tournament honors and was recognized as the league's pitcher of the week three times.

Marshburn started 15 games for the second straight season and finished with a 4-5 record. His 80.2 innings were a career high, and he allowed just two home runs on the season. Twice he was honored as the league's pitcher of the week.

UNCW has had 104 players selected in the MLB Draft since 1965.
