Baseball Opens Fall Slate Saturday At Home With Duke

Game moved to Saturday due to expected inclement weather

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW hosts Duke on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the first of four exhibition games this fall for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks hit the road the following weekend with games at UNCG (Oct. 10) and Appalachian State (Oct. 11) before closing out the schedule with a game against Brunswick CC on Oct. 18.

The annual Fall World Series will be Oct. 28-31.

UNCW returns three of its top five hitters from last season, including JP Pennella, who led the Coastal Athletic Association with a .380 batting average. Also returning are Mason Hughes, with a .322 batting average, and Jake Bechtel, who hit 10 home runs and drove in 39 runs in his first season with the program.

On the mound, CAA Rookie of the Year Trey Williford and TJ Ziermann return after strong summers in the Cape Cod League. Both were recognized by D1Baseball as top college prospects for the 2028 draft. Williford posted a 7-2 record and a 3.34 earned run average in 17 appearances as a freshman. Ziermann, meanwhile, struck out 34 in 27.1 innings.

Thirteen newcomers dot the roster this fall.
