Lucas Tabbed By Mariners In MLB Draft

Junior third baseman goes in the fourth round

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW junior third baseman Trevor Lucas was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday.

Lucas, who was taken with the 129th overall pick, becomes the Seahawks' highest draft pick since Greg Jones went in the first round of the 2019 draft.

As a junior, Lucas earned first-team All-Coastal Athletic Association honors after hitting .312 with a team-leading 12 home runs and knocking in 56 runs batted in.

In two seasons with the Seahawks, he started 116 consecutive games and batted .288. He slugged 49 extra-base hits, including 27 doubles and 21 homers.

Lucas becomes the first Seahawk to be drafted by the Mariners and the 102nd draft pick in UNCW history.

The second day of the draft, which will include rounds five through 20, will take place on Sunday in Philadelphia.
