Men's Golf Concludes NCAA Bryan Regional

BRYAN, Texas – The Coastal Athletic Association Champion UNCW men's golf team closed out the 2026 NCAA Bryan Regional in ninth place following the final two rounds on Tuesday at the Traditions Club at Texas A&M.

The No. 40 ranked Seahawks concluded their 12th NCAA appearance with a 293-288-283=864 scorecard over the 54-hole regional that was shortened to two days due to expected weather on Wednesday. The third round 283 score was the fourth lowest by the Port City program at NCAAs.

UNCW totaled 46 birdies, including double-digit one-unders by All-CAA First Teamers John Logan (12), James Rico (11) and Gray Mitchum (10).

Rico, the CAA Golfer of the Year, paced the Seahawks with a share of 21st place following a three-under par 69 third round score. The league's Individual Champion achieved par or better on 46 holes.

Logan rose 20 spots on the individual leaderboard, the highest of any golfer in the final round, with a five-under third round score to finished tied for 26th place. The Wilmington, N.C. product became the fifth Seahawk to post a 67 stroke score, the lowest mark by a UNCW player at an NCAA Regional, with seven birdies in the final round.

Texas (819), the host Aggies (824), Chattanooga (841), North Carolina (845) and Tennessee (846) advance to next week's NCAA Championships in California. UTRGV's Jorge Martin Sampedro, who finished 10th, also advances to the national championship tournament as the top individual finisher from a non-advancing team, while the Longhorns' Luke Potter claimed individual medalist honors.

The Seahawks made their first NCAA appearance since 2023 after automatic entry into the 81-team field by winning the 2026 CAA Championship last month with a record-breaking performance at the Dataw Island Club.

UNCW established a new CAA record with a 38-under-par 826 team score with three finishers in the top five, highlighted by Rico, who broke the conference record with a 14-under tournament score.

CAA Coach of the Year Blake Taylor's squad authored a 268-stroke third-round score on Saint Helena's Island in South Carolina, four shots below the previous single-round record, to cruise past defending champion Elon by 17 strokes for their ninth team title.

The Seahawks previously competed in the NCAA Regionals as a team in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023. UNCW sent individuals to NCAAs in 2002, 2009, 2016, 2017 and 2024.
