Mitchum Leads Seahawks Through NCAA First Round

BRYAN, Texas – UNCW men's golfer Gray Mitchum holds a share of 10th place with a two-under-par 70 score to lead the Seahawks following the first round of the 2026 NCAA Bryan Regional on Monday at the Traditions Club at Texas A&M.

The All-CAA First Teamer paced UNCW with five birdies, including three on his first six holes. The Seahawks fashioned a five-over-par 293 team score to conclude Monday in ninth place in the 14-team field.

The host Aggies (276), North Carolina (278), TCU (280), Texas (281) and Tennessee (282) make up the top five, while Chattanooga's Camden Braidech, UTRGV's Jose Martin Sampedro, and SMU's William Sides all carded three-under scores to sit tied for seventh in the 75-player leaderboard as the top individuals from a non-top-five team.

The top five teams and individual not part of an advancing team from each of the six regional sites, 156 players total, will qualify for the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, scheduled to be played May 29 to June 3 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

CAA Golfer of the Year James Rico carded three birdies on the front nine to sit tied for 20th through 18 holes.
