Baseball Preview: Campbell

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Seahawks and Campbell meet for a second time this season, with UNCW looking to secure a berth in next week's Coastal Athletic Association Championship tournament at Brooks Field.

The Camels have clinched first place in the South Division, while the Seahawks enter the weekend with a one-game lead over Charleston for second place. Any combination of UNCW wins and Charleston losses equaling two will give the Seahawks second place and a berth in the postseason. Charleston hosts William and Mary this weekend.

The final two spots in the tournament are determined by RPI, a formula used by the NCAA to rank all the programs in Division I. In the RPI report released on May 13, UNCW is 118, followed by Hofstra (155), Charleston (157), and Stony Brook (159). Hofstra visits Stony Brook this weekend. Northeastern and Monmouth have clinched the top two places in the standings in the North Division.

The conference tournament opens on May 20 with the fourth and fifth seeds playing at noon, followed by the third and sixth seeds at 4 p.m.

UNCW and Campbell open the series at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The Seahawks will honor their seniors and graduates on Friday before another 6 p.m. start, and the series concludes on Saturday at 4 p.m.
