Baseball Preview: #2 North Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Seahawks and Tar Heels take the field this evening in a non-conference tilt at Brooks Field with first pitch set for 6 p.m.

The Tar Heels (40-9-1) are ranked as high as second nationally and are sitting two games behind ACC-leading Georgia Tech entering the final weekend of the regular season.

The Seahawks (28-22) are in second in the South Division of the Coastal Athletic Association and host Campbell beginning on Thursday in their final conference series of the season.

UNCW's magic number to clinch the second berth in the South Division is two, meaning any combination of Seahawk wins and the College of Charleston losses, equaling two, will give the Seahawks either the third or fourth seed in next week's conference tournament at Brooks Field.

Seahawk freshman starter Trey Williford was honored by the CAA as the Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Monday. Williford tied his own career high and program freshman record of 11 strikeouts in a dominant start at North Carolina A&T.

Junior Bromley Thornton will get the starting nod for the Seahawks on Tuesday.
