Allen Listed As National Pitcher of the Year Semifinalist

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW junior Cooper Allen has been listed as a semifinalist for the National Pitcher of the Year Award presented by the College Baseball Foundation and announced on Wednesday.

Allen, a righthander, enters this weekend with a 6-2 record and a Coastal Athletic Association-leading 1.77 earned run average and .178 opponent batting average. He also paces the 11-team circuit in innings pitched (61.0), hits allowed per nine innings (5.61), and WHIP (Walks + Hits per inning) of 0.82.

Nationally, Allen is 10th in hits allowed per nine innings, 15th in ERA, and third in WHIP.

Allen was honored for the third time this season on Monday as the CAA Pitcher of the Week following a masterful four-hit shutout against Hofstra, where he struck out a career-high 11.

In 10 starts this season, he's allowed one or no runs in seven of them.

The Seahawks visit Elon this weekend for a key series in the CAA South Division race. The series opens Friday at 6 p.m.
