Baseball Preview: Hofstra

Alumni weekend and Athletics Hall of Fame on tap this weekend

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Coastal Athletic Association action resumes this weekend at Brooks Field when UNCW (20-16, 9-6 CAA) hosts Hofstra (11-19, 6-9 CAA) for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Seahawks wrapped up a nine-game road stretch on Tuesday with a loss at third-ranked North Carolina. UNCW also dropped a pair of CAA series during that swing to Stony Brook and Campbell.

Hofstra, meanwhile, has dropped its last two conference series after earning a series win over defending champion Northeastern.

Mason Hughes and JP Pennella lead the conference in hitting at .375. Cooper Allen paces the league with a 2.04 earned run average as well as innings pitched (53.0), opponent batting average (.183), and ranks in the top-10 nationally with a 0.87 WHIP.

Brooks Field will be busy this weekend with the program hosting Alumni Weekend and the 2026 UNCW Athletics Hall of Fame inductees. The Seahawks will honor the 2006 CAA Championship team and the 2016 NCAA Regional team. Longtime head coach Mark Scalf will be inducted into the Athletics Department's Hall of Fame on Saturday, along with former men's basketball coach Jerry Wainwright, and standouts Rafael Aita (Men's Tennis) and Amy Chilausky (Volleyball).
