Softball Continues Homestand This Weekend

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Fresh off a dominant win over Coastal Carolina, the UNCW softball team continues a five-game homestand with contests against Army, UNC Greensboro and Toledo at Boseman Field from Friday to Sunday.

The Seahawks (9-9) have one final weekend tune-up at home, where they are 6-3 in 2026, before Coastal Athletic Association play begins with a three-game series at North Carolina A&T from Mar. 13-15.

Freshman Emily Whitwell carries a six-game hitting streak into the weekend, which begins with a 6 p.m. start against the Rockets on Friday. A pair of contests against the Spartans and Black Knights begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Sunday's weekend capper vs. UNC Greensboro at 12:30 p.m.

All UNCW contests will be streamed on FloCollege with admission to all nine games at Boseman Field free throughout the weekend.

After dropping four contests on the road last weekend at nationally-ranked Georgia's tournament, the Seahawks bounced back with a seven-run inning to run-rule the Chanticleers 8-0 on Tuesday.

Led by junior Madison Biddle's three-run home run, UNCW totaled a season-high 14 hits, including four off the bat of junior Cassidy Relay to earn its first win over Coastal in 12 seasons.

Sophomore southpaw Lynsie Herman needed 90 pitches to complete six shutout innings.

Whitwell is one of several productive freshmen to make an early impact with the Seahawks, whose top three RBI leaders are all first-year players – Becca Merrick (13), Ava Brookshire (10) and Whitwell (8).

In the circle, right-hander junior Makayla Huddleston and freshman righty Camille Hamilton have totaled 71 combined strikeouts across 62 innings.
