Biddle's Big Night Advances Seahawks Into Friday

Huddleston Strikes Out Season-High 10 in Elimination Win

ELON, North Carolina – No. 2 seed UNCW's Madison Biddle fashioned a four-hit, five RBI game to help the Seahawks avoid elimination with a 7-3 win over No. 4 Stony Brook late Friday after UNCW dropped a 9-4 verdict to No. 3 seed Campbell to open the Coastal Athletic Association Championships at Elon's Hunt Softball Park.

The Seahawks (32-18) advanced to play No. 1 seed Hofstra in an elimination game on Friday at 2:30 p.m. The Seawolves (22-29) conclude their season after splitting two games on Wednesday.

Biddle, an All-CAA Second Teamer, became the sixth player in tournament history to have four hits in a game while matching her career-high with five runs driven in against Stony Brook, in which the Seahawks registered a season-high 16 hits.

GAME 1 | Campbell 9, UNCW 4
Campbell scored five runs in the second and third innings and then added four in the sixth to advance past UNCW into Friday's Winner's Bracket Final vs. Charleston.

The Camels loaded the bases without a hit or out before the game was delayed for nearly an hour due to rain. After play resumed, first baseman Hannah Cornetto worked a four-pitch walk and a groundout, and two batters later plated another.

Campbell fashioned five hits, highlighted by RBI singles off the bats of catcher Madison Ford and Cornetto to make it 5-0 after three innings.

The Seahawks made it a one-run contest with two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, including a two-run double off the bat of pinch hitter Peyton Carver in the fourth. UNCW collected five of its seven hits during the two frames.

A two-run triple by CAA Player of the Year Charlie Montgomery highlighted a four-run sixth to put Campbell in control for good.

Camels freshman Katelyn Hubley (19-5) went the distance for the No. 3 seed while Camille Hamilton (15-6) and Lynsie Herman were each charged for four earned runs.

GAME 2 | UNCW 7, Stony Brook 3
A back-and-forth affair saw the Seahawks lead 5-3 after three innings to avoid elimination and set up a do-or-die contest against top-seeded Hofstra on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Biddle launched a two-run home run over the right-center wall in the bottom of the first to erase an early 1-0 Stony Brook lead after Josephina Alfano scored on an error. Biddle added another run in the second on an RBI single.

Mia Vannelli evened the game, 3-3, in the top of the third with a two-RBI single down the left field line.

UNCW freshmen Becca Merick and Emily Whitwell put UNCW up 5-3 with back-to-back extra-base hits off a double by Merrick and a triple by Whitwell that both scored runs.

Biddle again delivered with the bases loaded in the fifth as she shot a single up the middle to score two more.

UNCW pitcher Makayla Huddleston (5-6) went the distance for the first time this season with a career-high 10 strikeouts.

Stony Brook starter Aubrey Jepson (5-10) went 4.1 innings.
