Baseball Preview: Maryland

Terps and Seahawks meet for first time since 2017

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW kicks off the 2026 season this Friday when it hosts Maryland in the first of a three-game series at 4 p.m.

Eighteen newcomers dot Head Coach Randy Hood's roster, but the Seahawks return experience in several key positions. Trevor Lucas and Kevin Jones anchor the left side of the infield at third base and shortstop, respectively. Both were preseason All-CAA honorable mentions. Also returning is Aidan Evans at second base as a junior; he paced the Seahawks with a .360 batting average in conference play.

Cole Nelson was voted preseason All-CAA at designated hitter by the league's coaches. Nelson hit a career-high 11 home runs, including eight in conference action.

Joining Nelson on the preseason accolade list was Connor Marshburn, a junior righthander, who finished 4-3 last season in his first season as a member of the rotation. Marshburn limited opponents to a .256 slugging percentage, ranking seventh nationally.

Game times for the final two days are 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. The series will be streamed on FloCollege.
