UNCW Falls At East Carolina, 14-8

GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina beat UNCW, 14-8, on Tuesday at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The Seahawks had rallied to within 8-7 in the top of the eighth, but the Pirates answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Pirates halted a brief two-game losing skid with the win to improve to 17-12-1. The Seahawks, meanwhile, fell to 18-10 with the loss and have now dropped four straight to the Pirates.

A leadoff walk issued by Francesco Capocci (1-2), who took the loss in relief, led to four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Davin Whitaker's pinch-hit single plated the first run, and Grady Lenahan knocked in three runs with a bases-loaded double to left later in the inning for a 5-1 lead.

Lenahan finished with three hits and five runs batted in for the Pirates. The centerfielder added a home run in the third inning.

Gavin Marley (1-0) was credited with the win coming out of the bullpen. Alex Bouche picked up his second save.

Ryker Galaska belted a solo homer, his third of the season, in the Seahawks' third inning, and Jackson Hood had a pinch-hit two- run homer in the eighth to narrow the deficit to 8-6.

Trevor Lucas had three hits, including his team-leading sixth homer in the top of the ninth. JP Pennella added two hits.

UNCW continues its nine-game road stretch this weekend at Stony Brook. The series opens Thursday with a 2 p.m. start.
