Seahawks Walked-Off By Seawolves, 7-6, In 10 Innings

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Nick Zampieron's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Stony Brook to a 7-6 win over UNCW in Coastal Athletic Association baseball action on Thursday.

With their third consecutive loss, the Seahawks bowed to 18-11 on the season and 7-3 in the league. SBU captured its second straight win and rose to 8-18 and 5-8.

In the SBU half of the 10th, Matthew Jackson worked a leadoff walk against losing pitcher Clay Masonis (0-2). A bunt single put runners on the corners, and an intentional walk loaded the bases. Masonis struck out the next batter, but Zampieron followed with a single to center field to end the game, 7-6.

JP Pennalla and Howie Rickett had two hits apiece for the Seahawks, who drew 13 walks in the contest.

Zampieron and Nicholas Dromboski each had three hits for the Seawolves.

Reliever John Rizzo (2-2) was credited with the win.

The series resumes Friday with a 2 p.m. start at Joe Nathan Field.
