GREENVILLE, N.C. – The UNCW men's cross-country team captured the team title at the Dill Family XC Invitational Friday, led by
Griffin Wald and
Nick Potter, while the women finished second overall in the 6K behind a third-place finish from
Elizabeth Dokulil.
"This was a great team win on the men's side," said UNCW head coach
Jeff Klaves. "This marks the first time we have won this meet hosted by ECU, and we've attended yearly since 2021. The men worked together and fought for every place and every point.
Nick Potter running as our No. 2 today shows his growth and maturity as a senior for our program. Learning to win matters, and the fight they showed today will translate well as we approach the championship portion of our season here in late October."
The Seahawks placed five runners in the top 16 to finish with 35 points. Wald led the way with a second-place finish in 25:57.3, followed by Potter in third at 26:18.4. Freshman
Daniel Fiore also recorded a personal-best time of 28:07.0, finishing 19th overall and improving by nearly two minutes from his previous best at the 2026 Chanticleer Challenge.
"The women are continuing to find their stride," Klaves said. "Every course and every race have different challenges, but the effort they continue to put in remains the same. If we keep showing up this way, with these high-quality efforts, we are going to continue to close the gap on where we want to be this year. Their mindset going into their first 6K of the season was in the right place, and their confidence continues to grow as they keep building their baseline level of fitness. Great race experience going into the CAA Cross Country Championships on Oct. 30."
The women finished second with 57 points, led by Dokulil's third-place finish in a collegiate-best 22:46.5. The sophomore improved by more than two minutes from her previous personal best, set at the 2025 CAA Cross Country Championships.
Claire Carmichael also recorded a collegiate-best time, finishing eighth in 23:26.2 and improving by nearly 20 seconds from her previous best at the 2025 CAA Cross Country Championships.
