Men's Soccer Adds Faint to Staff

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW men's soccer head coach Aidan Heaney has named James Faint as an assistant coach for the 2026 campaign.

Faint joins the Seahawks following five seasons in the same role at Duquesne.

"We welcome James to the Port City! He has gained valuable Division I experience at Duquesne and his principles will fit in very well with ours at UNCW," said Heaney. "His knowledge, insight and passion for our sport will hugely benefit our players and team."

During his first four seasons in Pittsburgh, the Dukes accumulated 40 wins, the highest total for the program in a four-year span since 2003 to 2006.

The Chester, England, native also served as an assistant for Steel City FC Women's First Team, a USL W League member, since 2021 and was a Performance Phase Head Coach for Steel City FC.

Faint has previously served as the Youth Development Phase (YDP) Head Coach for Pittsburgh Hotspurs Soccer as well as a regional coach for Bridge City. He spent a year coaching at Shady Side Academy in 2017. That season the Bulldogs claimed their first-ever Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) championship.

"Joining the men's soccer program at UNCW is an opportunity I'm truly excited about," said Faint. "From the first conversations, it was clear there is a strong commitment to player development, competitiveness, and building a winning culture.

"I'm eager to get to work with the staff and players to help push the program forward, and contribute to the success of the university both on and off the pitch! Go Seahawks!"

Faint's playing career includes stints at Witton Albion (2011-14), Middlewich Town U23's (2014-15) and Barnton FC (2015-16) in England.

He holds a First Class Honors Degree (Football Coaching, Development & Administration) from the University of South Wales and has also earned UEFA B and UEFA C Senior and Youth Coaching Licenses through the Welsh as well as a USSF B Coaching License.
