WILMINGTON, N.C. – Three UNCW women's cross country runners recorded top-five finishes to lead the women's team to a first-place finish at the Wilmington Beach Blast on Saturday night.
The women's team earned the victory with a score of 31 points, finishing ahead of NC Central (55 points) and Presbyterian (79 points).
The men's team placed third overall with 86 points, and second among the NCAA teams, finishing behind NC Central (50 points) and NC State's club team (66 points).Â
In her second career race, freshman Elizabeth Dokulil finished third overall in her first 5K, running 19 minutes, 45.63 seconds to lead the women's team.
Jalyn DeLeon, also a freshman, followed closely behind with a fourth-place overall finish (19:51.33) in her debut 5K.
Chandler Coughlin, a senior, rounded out the top five overall with her career-best time of 19:58.55 in the 5K event.
On the men's side, senior Taylor Anthony was the Seahawks'Â highest finisher at the Beach Blast for the second straight season, placing seventh with a time of 16:27.96.Â
Griffin Wald, a junior, placed ninth overall with a time of 16:41.76, and junior Nick Potter finished 13th, running 16:48.91.
