CONWAY, S.C. – UNCW men's and women's cross country placed fourth in their respective races at the Chancticleer Challenge on Friday evening.
Each race featured nine teams. The women's team placed fourth in the 5K, while the men's team finished fourth in their first 8K race of the season.
Senior Taylor Anthony paced the men's team, running 24 minutes, 55.58 seconds to finish 16th, improving his career-best result in the 8K by over one minute.
Griffin Wald, a junior, rounded out the top 30 with a career-best time of 25:45.97 in the 8K. Freshman Cooper Kovach finished 32nd in his first 8K, running 25:50.30.
On the women's side, freshman Demi Nicholas was the Seahawks' highest finisher, running a career-best 19:06.34 to finish 36th in the 5K.
Jalyn DeLeon, also a freshman, ran a career-best time of 19:15.80 to finish 37th, and junior Claire Carmichael placed 38th, running 19:26.29 to set her career-best time in the 5K by .01 seconds.
