CAA Home-Opener On Tap For Volleyball

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Seahawks return to Hanover Hall on Friday when they open a Coastal Athletic Association series with visiting North Carolina A&T at 6 p.m.

UNCW (1-10, 0-2 CAA) dropped its conference-opening series at Hofstra last weekend in a pair of sweeps at the hands of the undefeated Pride.

The Aggies, who are playing their first series in conference play this season, enter with a mark of 4-5 and knocked off UNCA last weekend at the Battle of North Carolina tournament. NCA&T is 1-5 on the road this season, with the win coming against Howard earlier this month.

Tyne Ross, a sophomore, leads the conference with 155 kills, averaging 4.55 per set. That mark also ranks her 20th nationally. Zariah Winton has been a strong second option, averaging 2.39 kills per set.

Looking to minimize what Ross will do this weekend is sophomore middle Marnie Ursem, who checks in at third with 1.19 blocks per set. Ursem leads the Seahawks, who are third in the circuit in blocking (2.39/set).

Also ranked among the conference leaders for the Seahawks are setter Olivia Heidel and libero Coley Shifflet. Heidel is fourth with 7.03 assists, while Shifflet is eighth with 3.59 digs.

Both matches this weekend are on FloCollege.
