Volleyball Swept By Charlotte

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Sophomore Marnie Ursem continued her strong start to the season on Saturday with seven kills and four blocks in a sweep (25-18, 25-18, 25-13) at the hands of Charlotte at the UNCW Hampton Inn University Invitational.

Charlotte finished the weekend with a 3-0 mark and improved to 6-3. The Seahawks, meanwhile, bowed to 1-8 with the loss.

Ursem finished with a .350 hitting average with no hitting errors on the afternoon. Olivia Heidel, a graduate student, added a season-high five kills from her setter position.

Jessica Ricks held match-high honors for the 49ers with 15 kills and committed just one hitting error. Jaylen Jordan added 12 kills and rounded out a double-double with 10 digs.

The Seahawks open Coastal Athletic Association play at Hofstra on Sept. 19-20.
