WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW men's tennis alumnus Harold Huens reached the semifinals of an International Tennis Federation Futures event after receiving a wild card.
A native of Waterloo, Belgium, Huens reached the semifinals of the M15 Huy $15K International Tournament of the province of Liège in Huy, Belgium, on Aug. 18.
"Really happy for Harry and a great start to his professional tennis career," said head coach Mait DuBois. "Picking up four ATP points and showing that he can beat some of the best players in the world, I know, will do a lot for him. Everybody here is cheering for his continued success after an exceptional collegiate career."
Huens defeated Mac Visser (ITF No. 731) in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-2, becoming the second player in program history and the first since Chris Cooprider in 2013 to reach a futures semifinal.
In the first two rounds of the tournament, Huens defeated a pair of Association of Tennis Professionals, highlighted by a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the second round against Lucas Bouquet (ATP No. 659).
Huens earned a 6-1, 7-6 victory in the first round against Cesar Bouchelaghem (ATP No. 1217), who recently played No. 1 singles at the University of Washington during the 2024-25 season.
Huens, the 2024 and 2025 Coastal Athletic Association Player of the Year and 2022 CAA Rookie of the Year, turned professional after leading UNCW to its fifth straight and 11th overall conference championship in 2025.
He finished his collegiate career with 50 singles wins in dual matches at UNCW, and holds the fourth-best win percentage for singles (.735) in program history.
