WILMINGTON, N.C. – Freshman midfielder Meg Umemoto was named Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Week on Monday, following her match-winning goal for UNCW women's soccer against Georgia Southern on Aug. 31.
Umemoto, a native of Inagi, Tokyo, entered the match as a substitute against Georgia Southern in the 33rd minute. Four minutes later, Umemoto scored her first career goal on a powerful left-footed strike in the upper left corner from the top of the 18-yard box.
Umemoto is tied for second on the team in goals and is one of nine freshmen in the CAA to score a goal during the 2025 campaign.
On Aug. 28, Umemoto made her first career start and played 53 minutes in UNCW's 1-1 draw at East Carolina, who qualified for the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
