Men's Hoops Draws Texas Tech in NCAA First Round

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The 2025 Coastal Athletic Association Men's Basketball Champion UNCW men's basketball program will tip off the 2025 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament against Texas Tech on Thursday, Mar. 20, at the Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita, Kan.
 
The Seahawks (27-7) will be the No. 14 seed in the West Regional and play the No. 3 seed Red Raiders (25-8) in the NCAA First Round at 10:10 p.m. ET (9:10 p.m. local time) on TruTV. Tom McCarthy, Debbie Antonelli, Steve Smith and AJ Ross will be on the call.
 
UNCW will make its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance, first since 2017, and 11th overall postseason berth after soaring to the 2025 CAA title last week with wins over Hampton, Charleston and Delaware. The Seahawks set a conference record with its seventh CAA crown.
 
The Seahawks and Red Raiders have met once previously in the 2002-03 season opener, an 85-76 win for Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
 
UNCW is anchored by All-CAA Second Teamer and CAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Donovan Newby, who paced the Seahawks in scoring this season, including 16.7 ppg in the CAA Tournament.
 
F­­ifth-year Head Coach Takayo Siddle is the fourth Seahawk bench boss to take his team to the Big Dance, joining former Port City luminaries Jerry Wainwright, Brad Brownell and Kevin Keatts.
 
The winner will advance to play the winner of No. 6 Missouri and No. 11 Drake on Saturday, Mar. 22, in Wichita.
