Volleyball Opens With East Carolina On Friday

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW volleyball retakes the court on Friday as a revamped roster that includes eight newcomers look to get the season started with a bang against East Carolina.

The Seahawks and Pirates will play the third game of the Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Classic on Friday with first serve set for 6 p.m. in Hanover Hall. Joining the Seahawks and Pirates this weekend are Queens University and Loyola Maryland.

Three of the UNCW newcomers are transfer in the form of Karlee Soderberg (Sacramento State), Liv Womble (George Washington) and Larisa Letoranta (West Virginia State).

UNCW's top returning player from last season is preseason All-CAA honorable mention selection, Grace Melnick. As a junior, Melnick paced the Seahawks with a career-high .336 hitting average, ranking seventh in the Coastal Athletic Association.

The Classic includes three more matches on Saturday with UNCW taking on Loyola at 10 a.m. and Queens in the tournament finale at 5 p.m.

Admission is free for all tournament matches.
