Volleyhawks Shutter Tribe In Four Sets

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW remained in contention for a Coastal Athletic Association tournament berth with a 3-1 win (25-20, 19-25, 25-18, 25-18) over William & Mary on Saturday at Hanover Hall.

The win lifted UNCW to a mark of 3-9 in the league and 4-18 overall. The Tribe dropped back to 4-8 in conference play and 9-14 on the season.

Avery Markham led UNCW with 12 kills and Hannah Forbes added 11. Lilly Sullivan collected eight kills in 13 swings with no hitting errors (.818 hitting average) and added five total blocks.

Marnie Ursem joined Sullivan at the net with five kills and eight total blocks. UNCW out-blocked the Tribe, 13-6.

W&M landed three in double-digit kills, with Aubrey Brcka's 13 being a match high. Nicole Smith and Katherine Arnason joined her with 12 and 11, respectively.

The Seahawks opened the match by hitting .455 in the first set with 18 kills and just three errors in 33 attacks. The hitting continued in the third set with 13 kills and an error in 25 attempts.

The Seahawks visit Elon next weekend for their final road series of the season. The series opens at 7 p.m. on Nov. 8.
