Craig, Sales Taken On Day Two Of MLB Draft

WILMINGTON, N.C. – On day two of the Major League Baseball Draft, Seahawks Luke Craig and RJ Sales heard their names called by the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Detroit Tigers, respectively.

Craig was taken by Arizona in the seventh round with the 224th overall pick while Sales was selected by Detroit in the 10th round with the 296th overall pick.

Craig and Sales were first-team All-Coastal Athletic Association honors in 2024 as the Seahawks captured their second consecutive and league-record eighth conference tournament title.

Craig finished with a 4-1 mark and converted seven saves. In 55 innings, he limited opponents to a meager .172 batting average and struck out 76.
Sales, meanwhile, finished 11-3 to lead the CAA in wins and made 16 starts. The right-hander held opponents to a .206 batting average and fashioned a 3.41 earned run average.

Craig was the first Seahawk since 2017 to be selected by the Diamondbacks when Terence Connelly was selected. Sales became UNCW's first draftee by the Tigers since Corey Broome in 1993.

UNCW has now had 94 players selected in the MLB Draft and 21 in the top 10 rounds.

The Coastal Athletic Association saw nine players selected on the second day.
