Two Seahawks Earn ABCA All-Region Honors

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW placed two Seahawks, Tanner Thach and RJ Sales, on the American Baseball Coaches Association 2024 ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region teams released on Tuesday.

Thach earned first-team honors at first base while Sales was a second-team honoree as a starting pitcher.

Thach, who was the Coastal Athletic Association's Co-Player of the Year and a first-team All-CAA selection, smashed UNCW's home run record for a single season and career. As a sophomore, Thach launched a program single-season record 27 home runs, which was also a Coastal Athletic Association record. Thach batted .324 while posting career-highs in runs (59) and runs batted in (75).

Sales was the ace of the pitching staff, posting an 11-3 record in a career-best 16 starts. His 11 wins were second most in program history. Sales fashioned an earned run average of 3.41 and limited opponents to a meager .206 batting average. As a red-shirt sophomore, Sales posted a 6-2 record in conference play and was named first-team All-CAA.

The Seahawks defended their CAA tournament title in 2024 and advanced to the NCAA Regionals for a 12th time, all coming since 2003. UNCW posted a 40-21 record, marking the eighth time in program history it won at least 40 games.
