Men's Tennis Preview: at #14 NC State (NCAA)

RALEIGH, N.C. – UNCW makes its 11th NCAA Regional appearance on Friday when the Seahawks face 14th-seeded NC State at 4 p.m. at the JW Isenhour Tennis Complex.

The Seahawks (17-5) earned their trip to the NCAA tournament by winning their fourth straight Coastal Athletic Association championship last week in Williamsburg. UNCW opened the conference tournament run with a pair of 4-0 shutouts of Charleston and William & Mary, respectively, and then clipped Elon, 4-1 in the finals.

The Wolfpack earned an at-large berth to the tournament and carries a 17-6 record and a ranking of 14th in the latest ITA Rankings, announced on Thursday.

NCSU features four players ranked in the ITA Singles rankings with Robin Catry leading the way at 54th.

For the Seahawks, the doubles team of Reece Falck and Harold Huens is ranked 61st nationally. Lua Staeheli and Carty are 36th.

UNCW and NCSU last met in 2015-16 with the Seahawks taking a 4-3 decision from the Wolfpack. NC State leads the series, 6-2.

The winner of the opening round match faces the winner of Old Dominion and South Carolina on Saturday at 5 p.m.
