UNCW Finishes Third At CAA Men's Golf Championship

SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – Led by top-10 performances from Gray Mitchum and Patrick Sparks, UNCW finished third at the Coastal Athletic Association men's golf championship at the Cotton Dike Course.

Top-seeded College of Charleston (276-281-272=829) finished off a championship performance on Tuesday, shooting a conference record-tying 16-under-par in the third round to win the conference title. The Cougars finished 35-under for the tournament, also a championship record.

The Seahawks (272-287-281=840) finished third, 11 strokes off the lead and four behind second-place Elon (274-279-283=836).

CofC's Zach Reuland (68-69-66=203) and Kieron van Wyk (66-69-68=203) tied for medalist honors.

Mitchum (66-71-70=207) and Sparks (67-72-69=208) finished tied for fourth and sixth, respectively.

Mitchum's tournament score was the second lowest in program history, trailing only Sparks' 2023 score of 205. The sophomore also posted his second top-10 finish of the season and the best finish of his career.

Sparks, meanwhile, recorded his third straight top-10 finish at the CAA Championships and his tournament score ranks third on UNCW's all-time list.

UNCW carded a seven-under-par 281 in the final round. That mark ranks tied for third in the program's championship rankings.
