UNCW Looks To Overcome 6-Stroke Deficit

SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – UNCW dropped back to third place at the Coastal Athletic Association men's golf championship on Monday despite posting a solid one-under-par score on a wind-swept Cotton Dike Course.

Elon (274-279=553) built a four-stroke lead over Charleston for the tournament lead on Monday, shooting nine-under. Charleston (276-281=557) moved into second at 19-under for the tournament by going seven-under in the second round.

The Seahawks (272-287=559), who stand in third place entering the final round, shot a one-under-par 287 and are five strokes ahead of Campbell (280-284=564).

Gray Mitchum (66-71=137) is tied for fourth, just two strokes off the lead held by Charleston's Kieron van Wyk (66-69=135).

Patrick Sparks (67-72=139), meanwhile, played even-par golf on Monday and dropped to eighth at five strokes off the lead.

Ryan O'Neil (76-70=146) posted UNCW's top score in the round, finishing two-under and vaulting 18 spots in the standings into a tie for 23rd.

Sander Akeren (66-77=143) fell to 13th through two rounds.

The third and final round tees off at 8 a.m. while the Seahawks, who are paired with Elon and Charleston, will go off at 9 a.m.
