Women's Basketball Signs Hollifield for 2024-25

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's basketball team has signed Belmont transfer Kate Hollifield for the 2024-25 season.

Hollifield, a 5-10 guard, spent the previous two years with the Bruins, for whom she played 59 games.

"I watched Kate through her high school years and recruited her years ago," said UNCW Head Coach Nicole Woods. "She won a state championship at Shelby High School. She's got the shooting touch needed to increase our offensive production. She's an even better person and student. We are lucky to have her!"

The Shelby, N.C., native averaged 6.8 minutes over 27 contests as a sophomore in 2023-24. The sharpshooter erupted for a career-high 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point range in a win vs. Bradley this past January.

Hollifield was a prep standout at Shelby High School where she was an All-State selection as well as the 2021-22 Southern Piedmont Conference Player of the Year after averaging 23.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 58 percent from the floor as a senior.

She led Shelby to the 2020-21 North Carolina Class 2A state title with averages of 22 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and nearly 3.0 steals per game as a junior.

Her father played both basketball and football at Appalachian State.
