Softball Opens Season with Home Tournament

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team begins its 40th year of play and the second season of the Ashley Wade era when it welcomes five other programs to Boseman Field for a four-day weekend series from Feb. 8-11.

The Seahawks, who finished 23-27 in 2023, host DePaul, Furman, North Dakota State, Northern Kentucky and Queens (N.C.) for the first of two home tournament weekends in February. All six teams will play five games, beginning when the Seahawks open the 2024 campaign vs. the Royals on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Admission to Boseman Field is free throughout the weekend. Three UNCW softball games – Friday night vs. DePaul and Sunday's doubleheader vs. NDSU and Furman – will be streamed on FloSoftball. Live Stats will be available for all 15 games throughout the weekend.

The Seahawks were picked to finish fourth in the CAA Preseason Poll one season after finishing second with a program-record 17 conference wins. UNCW returns three All-CAA performers in pitcher Kara Hammock, outfielder Arial Pearce and second baseman Tayler Vitola, all of whom were included on the league's Softball Preseason Watch List.

UNCW returns 17 letter winners from last season's squad, including five position players who started over 40 games, along with 10 newcomers. The Seahawks also return 68.9 percent of their innings from a year ago.
