Carrico Wins 500 Free, Men Extend CAA Meet Lead

UNCW women 12 points back of the lead entering Friday

HAMPTON, Va. – UNCW freshman William Carrico won the 500 freestyle as the UNCW men extended their lead at the Coastal Athletic Association championships to 65 points on Thursday at the Hampton Aquaplex.

The women's program enters day three of the meet trailing Delaware by 12 points.

Carrico, who won the 500 Free for the fourth time this season, fashioned a career-best and UNCW freshman record of 4:21.66. UNCW has won the event three consecutive years.

Aidan Duffey took fourth in the 500 and Silas Crosby was 10th.

On the women's side, Brooke Knisley finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.45, and Sam Dugan, a freshman, won the consolation final.

The Seahawk men earned valuable points in the 200 IM as Will Goldey (1:45.73) and Jacob Duracinsky (1:45.76) finished second and third, respectively. UNCW had four in the finals of the race with Mason Hetzel and Paddy Morris placing sixth and 10th, respectively.

Gil Shaw set a women's school record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.44.

Cameron Snowden, who earned All-CAA honors on the championship 200 medley relay on Wednesday, added another All-CAA honor with a third-place showing in the 50 Free. Snowden posted a time of 22.66 seconds.

Mac Russell also earned All-CAA honors in the men's 50 freestyle when he clocked in with a time of 19.92. Noah Sipowski tied for fourth and Robert Tars rounded out the finals field in 10th.

Day three of the meet begins with the prelims at 11 a.m.
