WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW head men's tennis coach Mait DuBois has announced the addition of Wilmington native Augie Ballantine to play tennis for the Seahawks beginning in the fall of 2024.

"I have known Augie since he was the top player in the south, playing in the 10 and unders," said DuBois. "He is an excellent athlete with good size, big serve, and excellent hands around the court. He is a multi-sport athlete who has had a huge growth spurt in the last couple of years. I am excited to see what he can do with his talent and athleticism once he joins our training environment."

Ballantine, who is a three-star recruit according to Tennisrecruiting.net, is the top player at New Hanover High School and has dropped just three matches in his three-plus seasons for the Wildcats. As a junior, he was honored as an All-State selection. Ballantine has been ranked the top player not only in North Carolina but also in the Southern section, which includes nine states.

"I love the fact that Augie has been a Seahawk fan since he was a youngster. He comes from an excellent family that has been around Seahawk athletics for many years. He understands that UNCW is a very special place and I think that will come across in what he brings to our team. I believe Augie is going to surprise a lot of people with what he can do."
