CAA Names Hammock Pitcher of the Week

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Kara Hammock's two complete-game efforts over the weekend have earned her Coastal Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week honors on Tuesday.

Hammock went 2-0 in the circle across two starts in which she did not allow an earned run. The 6-2 right-hander struck out 14 batters vs. George Mason and Providence and limited opponents to a microscopic .085 batting average.

The 2023 All-CAA First-Temer shut out the Patriots last Thursday with a season-high nine strikeouts.

Hammock scattered three hits against the Friars on Sunday and worked around an unearned run in the second inning. She retired 17 of her final 21 batters and was rewarded when UNCW rallied in the sixth inning to win 2-1.

This is the third Pitcher of the Week notice for Hammock, who was weekly recognized twice by the CAA in 2022 and went on to capture CAA Rookie of the Year that season.

UNCW (8-5) hosts Michigan State (6-9) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Boseman Field.
