Winstead Earns CAA Pitcher of the Week

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Emily Winstead has been named the Coastal Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week following a strong start to the 2024 campaign.

Winstead (1-0) made two starts and pitched to a 1.35 ERA across 10.1 innings in the Seahawks' season-opening home tournament. UNCW won both of Winstead's starts vs. DePaul and Furman and she completed at least five innings in both games.

The 2022 CAA Pitcher of the Year picked up the win in her 2024 debut against the Blue Demons with five shutout frames and limited the Big East opponent to two hits along with four strikeouts.

Winstead then pitched into the sixth inning in the weekend finale vs. Paladins in which she held Furman to a pair of runs on six hits.

It is the fourth weekly honor of Winstead's career and the third Pitcher of the Week recognition for the right-handed ace. The Seahawks have now had at least one weekly award winner in the season's first week for three straight years.

UNCW continues play on the road at the North Florida-Jacksonville joint tournament this weekend.
