Seahawks Edge Pirates on Corbin's Walk-Off Single

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Allison Corbin's pinch-hit game-winning single up the middle propelled the UNCW softball team to a Coastal Athletic Association sweep over Hampton with a 9-8 win in Saturday's season finale at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks earned their third CAA sweep to close the season at 28-22 overall and 14-13 in league play. The Pirates finish the year at 15-34 and 5-22 in the circuit.

UNCW tallied 13 hits, including multi-hit contests by Madison Biddle, Morgan Britt, Arial Pearce, Cassidy Relay, Lauryn Richardson and Elizabeth Winstead. Biddle was the lone Seahawk to drive in multiple runs with a two-RBI double in the first.

Hampton countered with nine hits highlighted by three off the bat of designated player/pitcher Leah Maduro, who hit a two-run home run in the top of the first and singled home another run in the third.
The season finale for both clubs featured two ties and three lead changes, including clutch pinch hits in the seventh by both programs.

The Pirates loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, down 8-6, when pinch-hitter Camryn Hamilton tied the game with a two-run single to center field.

Pearce and Richardson both singled to start the bottom of the seventh and Winstead worked a full-count walk to load the bases with two outs as Head Coach Ashley Wade called on Corbin from the bench.

Corbin, who sent the Seahawks home with a walk-off sacrifice fly in Thursday's series opener, took a ball and a strike before delivering the game-winning swing up the middle to score Richardson and send seven seniors home victorious in their final game at Boseman Field.

UNCW freshman Lynsie Herman (7-2) earned the win with three relief innings.

Hampton senior Jada Evans (5-10) allowed one run in 3.1 relief innings.
