Holton Joins UNCW Softball Staff

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW softball head coach Ashley Wade has announced the addition of former Florida State and Ole Miss graduate assistant Kyler Holton to the UNCW program as assistant coach for the 2026 season.

Holton, who will oversee the Seahawk pitching staff, spent the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant at FSU, where he helped the Seminoles to 15 shutouts, the lowest ERA (2.20), strikeout to walk ratio (3.43) and most overall wins (49) in the Atlantic Coast Conference en route to the conference regular season championship in 2025 and two NCAA Super Regional appearances.

"As one of the top young coaches in softball, Kyler has known nothing but success and has a reputation for developing pitchers," said Wade. "His passion for the game and commitment to our program's culture, combined with his work ethic, knowledge and impressive postseason experience, will make an immediate and profound impact on our team."

While on FSU head coach Lonni Alameda's staff, Holton held various responsibilities, including signaling pitches to the defense in real-time via PitchCom technology, classifying opposing hitters into matchup categories based on in-depth data analysis, and tracking and interpreting ball flight data during bullpens to assist with player development.

Holton also helped organize and execute booster events to foster program support and community engagement.

"I'm fired up to join this program—stepping on campus felt like home and I knew right away it was the right fit, said Holton. "I'm pumped to collaborate with this driven coaching staff and help elevate our pitchers to the next level."

Prior to his time in Tallahassee, Holton served as a graduate assistant and student manager at Ole Miss under Rebels coach Jamie Trachsel. Ole Miss reached two NCAA Regionals during Holton's tenure with the program, where he contributed to practices, video scouting, and other program responsibilities.

During his studies at Ole Miss, Holton spent over a year as an assistant coach for the Georgia Bombers Lewis Fastpitch Team 18U in Atlanta. He helped implement new philosophies related to coaching, pitching, and scouting to enhance each player's ability to perform to the best of their ability and to achieve winning results.

Holton earned his bachelor's degree in allied health studies with a minor in Psychology from Ole Miss in 2023. He went on to earn a graduate degree at Florida State in Athletic Coaching in 2025.
