Sales Named CAA Pitcher of the Week

Red-shirt sophomore tied his career high with eight strikeouts

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW red-shirt sophomore RJ Sales was named Coastal Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week on Monday after a dominant start in the season opener against Mid-America Conference favorite Kent State.

Sales, who missed the 2022 season with an injury, earned the win after limiting the Golden Flashes to a run on one hit and two walks over 5.2 innings. He tied his career high with eight strikeouts and retired 14 consecutive batters at one point.

Sales was a 2022 first-team All-CAA selection as a freshman and fashioned a 6-1 record in 15 starts.

The Seahawks opened the season with a series win over Kent State last weekend and visit nationally-ranked Coastal Carolina on Tuesday.
