Brooks Field Renovations To Begin Following 2024 Season

The playing surface, dugouts and outfield wall to be refurbished in initial phase of renovations

WILMINGTON, N.C.- UNCW Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger has announced renovations to the playing surface and the surrounding areas will begin following the 2024 season and be completed in time for the 2025 season.

"I'd like to thank the Board of Trustees and Chancellor Volety for their assistance in helping us move forward with these much-needed renovations to Brooks Field," said Oblinger. "Our nationally-known baseball program competes at the highest level and these much-needed enhancements will allow for that to continue."

The UNCW Board of Trustees approved the renovations in December. The renovations include replacing the entire playing surface with synthetic turf, construction of modern dugouts, and a new configuration of the outfield wall.

The designs were done by CHA Consulting, based out of Albany, N.Y. with several offices throughout North Carolina, which has designed collegiate facilities at Boston College (Harrington Athletic Village), NC State, UConn, and Delaware among other schools.

"I'm excited for this first phase of renovations, all of which will modernize the playing surface and surrounding areas and increase the safety of our student-athletes," said Head Coach Randy Hood, who begins his fifth season leading the program and his 23rd overall with the Seahawks.

Synthetic playing surfaces have increased in number in the Carolinas and the Coastal Athletic Association in recent years. In the CAA, only Towson, Monmouth, William & Mary, and North Carolina A&T are fully natural surface facilities. In the Carolinas, Wake Forest, Duke, Elon, Campbell, High Point, Charlotte, College of Charleston, and Appalachian State are among the facilities with synthetic surfaces.

Season tickets and individual game tickets are on sale now at UNCWSports.com. The Seahawks, who are considered a top-40 program entering the season by D1Baseball.com, host Kent State on Feb. 16-18 at Brooks Field in the season-opening weekend for both programs.
