Teal Forces Game Three With 5-2 Win

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Strong pitching and timely hitting propelled Teal to a 5-2series-evening win on Friday at Brooks Field, sending the Fall Classic to a winner-take-all game three on Saturday.

Freshman Davis Cabbage (1-0) picked up the win for Teal after allowing a run on three hits and striking out six in his three innings of work. Mason Ruh, a graduate transfer, and Clay Masonis, a red-shirt freshman, closed out the final four innings to send the series to game three.

Red-shirt senior John Newton finished 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and freshman Casey Carpenter belted a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring.

Connor Marshburn (0-1) was saddled with the loss. Both Navy runs came on solo homers by Mac Gillespie and Danny O'Brien. Both homered for the second time this series.

The series concludes on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start.
