Women's Basketball Preview: Charleston

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women's basketball team continues on the road for its lone game this weekend at rival Charleston on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the TD Arena.
 
GAME COVERAGE SERIES INFO
UNCW carries a 20-15 all-time advantage into Sunday against Charleston. The teams split a pair of contests last season with both teams prevailing at home. The Cougars won an overtime thriller in the first meeting before the Seahawks dominated the boards with 60 rebounds to split the season series.

Sunday will also feature the CAA's two top-scoring first-year players in Charleston's Taryn Barbot (16.7 ppg) and UNCW's Taylor Henderson (14.6 ppg).

It will be a homecoming for UNCW program assistant Madison Taylor, who played at Charleston from 2018-22.

LAST TIME OUT
UNCW split a pair of games last weekend, earning its first conference win vs. Campbell before falling at Hampton last Sunday.

Redshirt freshman Sammy Ackles achieved her first career double-double against the Lady Pirates with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Holly Springs, N.C., native pulled down double-digit boards in both games last weekend.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
The Cougars used an 18-0 first quarter run to surge past Northeastern last Sunday in Boston.

Guard Jenna Annecchiarico surpassed 1,500 career points with 20 markers while the aforementioned Barbot led Charleston with 26 points.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Seahawks return home to host North Carolina A&T (Feb. 2) and Hampton (Feb. 4) next weekend.
