Volleyhawks Move To Program-Best Start In CAA Action

UNCW comes-from-behind to knock off Campbell on Saturday, 3-2

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW's Katie Lanz collected 22 digs and 21 kills as UNCW remained atop the Coastal Athletic Association standings with a come-from-behind, 3-2 (24-26, 28-26, 23-25, 30-28, 15-12) win over visiting Campbell on Saturday at Hanover Hall.

The Seahawks remained perfect in the conference at 5-0 with their fifth consecutive win while improving to 8-7 overall. The Camels, meanwhile, dropped to 3-2 in the league and 6-9 overall.

Campbell held a 2-1 advantage following a 25-23 win in the third set. UNCW, however, outlasted the Camels, 30-28 in the fourth set which saw 12 ties and seven lead changes.
With the win, the Seahawks improved to 5-0 to open conference play for the first time.

Lanz was one of five Seahawks to reach double-digits in kills with Sarah Thompson, a sophomore, adding a career-high 15. Adding a double-double for the Seahawks was senior Belle Schall with a season-high 41 assists and 13 digs.

Melody Paige and Chloe Cook had 13 kills apiece for the Camels, who are in their first year as a member of the CAA. Paige finished with a .464 hitting average with no hitting errors in 28 attacks.

UNCW's Jadyn Barry held match-high honors with 25 digs while Claranne Fetcher finished with 24 for Campbell.

UNCW finished with 77 kills, a season-high, and third most in program history.

The series concludes on Sunday with a 2 p.m. start at Hanover Hall.
