Seahawk Men Rally Past South Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Trailing with two events to go in the meet, William Carrico gave UNCW a win in the 400 IM and the men's 200 free relay sealed the win as the Seahawks topped South Carolina, 158-142, in the season-opening meet for both programs at the David B. Allen Natatorium on Friday.

The Gamecocks earned a split of the meet with an 181-119 win over the Seahawk women.

Carrico, a freshman, led all the way and posted a winning time of 3:59.84 in his collegiate debut.

In the 200 relay, the team of Noah Sipowski, Jacob Duracinsky, Mac Russell and Kenneth Lowe edged the Gamecock relay with a time of 1:22.35, 0.51 faster.

It was UNCW's first win over South Carolina since the 2002 season.

The Seahawks host Tennessee next on Oct. 6, at 4 p.m.
